Starting at the hiking information point at the Merkur’s bottom station, the trail follows the Müllenbildstraße past the Hässlichmatte meadow to the Wildgehege wildlife reserve. From here it passes the Eckhöfe estate and the Waldcafé (restaurant for a possible refreshment stop) before returning to the Merkur funicular railway’s bottom station.
This walk through the Merkur’s woodlands features only gentle inclines and thanks to the wide forest tracks can also be negotiated with a pushchair. The wildlife reserve with its deer, fallow deer, mouflon and wild boars is also an interesting attraction for children while adults can savour the views of the village of Lichtental from the Marienkapelle chapel located on Eckberg hill.
